Annual Letter from our President, Kirstin Gray

October 20, 2014

Dear Friends,

FY 2014 was a busy and successful year. Our book sale raised $9,000 for the library, thank to donations of more than 30,000 books and your help in sorting and selling books and making treats for the bake sale.

Additionally, we have worked on attracting new members through events like our Halloween table, where we passed out candy, bookmarks, and membership flyers; and Square Jam where we teamed up with the librarians to offer coloring activities and cookies to all who stopped by.

We offered field trips to Fairsted, a Frederick Law Olmsted site, and the Peabody Essex Museum, and had full bus loads for each trip. And we hosted a very fun Downtown Abbey evening with previews of the coming season, goodies of the time period, and a raffle of Downton Abbey items. Some of our attendees even dressed in period costumes!

For the year, we took in $19,000 in membership dues, donations, and event proceeds, enabling us to purchase an art exhibition system, new computer kiosks, and an easel for the children’s room. We also funded children’s programs, the Museum Pass program, and the Event Keeper program, and we initiated our popular DVD rental program.

We are very excited about FY 2015. We have planned a Musical World Café for December 4th (sponsored by the Friends and The Sharon Public Library), a Downton Abbey Event in the winter, and we are brainstorming ideas for smaller events.  We welcome your help and support in the year.
